VietNamNet Bridge – According to the Global Cybersecurity Index Report of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Vietnam ranked 76th out of 196 countries, with the index of 0.324, higher than the average of the world (0.28).

In the Asia – Pacific region, of the 40 countries and territories assessed, Vietnam ranked 17th.

The Global Cybersecurity Index Report was released by the ITU at the World Summit on Information Society, which aims to assess the current situation and promote efforts of countries to strengthen measures to ensure safety of network information.

The Global Cybersecurity Index measures the commitment of countries to cybersecurity. Cybersecurity has a wide field of application that cuts across many industries and sectors. Each country’s level of development is analyzed within five categories: Legal Measures, Technical Measures, Organizational Measures, Capacity Building and Cooperation.

The US topped the list with 0.824 index, and East Timor was at the bottom with 0.0.

Of the six regions, Europe had the highest average index with 0.45, followed by Asia – Pacific with 0.29, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with 0.27, the Arab countries with 0.27, Americas 0.26; and Africa with 0.16.

The specific results of Vietnam were: Legal Measures: 0.5; Technical Measures: 0.3333; Organizational Measures: 0.125; Capacity Building: 0.5; and Cooperation: 0.25.

Representatives of the Information Safety Agency of the Ministry of Information and Communications said that this result correctly reflected the situation of security of information networks of Vietnam because the Information Safety Index of Vietnam in 2014 released by the Vietnam Information Security Association was 0.39.

This year, the Information Safety Agency has also coordinated with the Vietnam Information Security Association to develop the Vietnam Cybersecurity Index, which will be announced on Information Security Day 2015 in early December.
