Valve’s Steam Deck handheld game console is shipping to pre-ordered customers, though it’s not yet known how well it will be received by customers, but Valve claims that the company has plans for the next generation. The next Steam Deck.

In an interview with Edge magazine, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said the company is listening very carefully to the Steam Deck user community and what it requires to plan a second generation.

Newell revealed that the most expensive version of the Steam Deck the company offers, the $649.99 NVMe 512GB version and the anti-glare glass display, is by far the most popular version.

Newell told Edge that users were looking for “a version that’s even more expensive than this one, in terms of power or whatever ,” which surprised Valve, as they expected the price to be ” critical factor” in the success of a handheld gaming device. “We learned a lot from these requirements and helped us shape the Deck 2 generation.”

Newell said he very much looks forward to other companies using the assistive software Valve created to develop competitors to the Steam Deck.

It may be a while before we see Valve unveil a new generation of Steam Deck, but it’s almost certain the console won’t stop with just the first generation.
