Turn Windows Laptop into a “virtual router” to share Internet connection and files

In your home or in a corporate project room, you can use a wireless router as an intermediary device for sharing Internet connections and files with multiple computers. However, for some reason, the wireless router is broken, with just a computer running Windows, you can quickly turn it into a very handy alternative. As follows.

Start Command Prompt with the highest administrative rights (Run as Administrator) from the Start Menu or the search window.

Enter the command ” netsh wlan show drivers ” into the Command Prompt and press the ENTER key to execute.

Wait a few seconds for the system to display the information according to the entered command line. Look for the line ” Hosted network supported “, if it is ” Yes ” then your computer is capable of creating its own WiFi hotspot. If “No”, your computer does not support it.

When you see the computer with the line “Hosted network supported” is “Yes”, then enter the command ” netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=[name-WiFi] key=[password] “. Where [WiFi-name] and [password] are the network name and password you choose. Then press ENTER.

After the initialization is complete, the Command Prompt will display some warning messages for you.

Now enter the command ” netsh wlan start hostednetwork ” and press the ENTER key to start the virtual router you just created.

Once you have allowed the virtual router to be started, continue to access Network Connections by entering the keyword ” ncpa.cpl ” in the search bar.

A list of connections will appear. Find the connection name you just created and right click on it and select “Properties”.

The Properties window appears, click the “Sharing” tab at the top and check the “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection” option.

Then click on the drop-down menu of “Home network connection” and select the correct connection and data sharing task with the virtual router format you set up earlier. Then click “OK” to save.

Now you just need to open the device you need to use and connect to “Router”. If you want your router to support VPN, you need to install and use OpenVPN on your computer.

Very simple, right?
