This mode of Chrome allows you to comfortably watch videos while browsing the web in other tabs

Tram Ho

We all had to choose. You are watching an interesting video online, but in your heart you want to get it done, or eager to see what’s hot on Facebook. You have to constantly switch between Chrome tabs. You will be able to hear the audio of the video, but not the image. It’s a compromise that any user keeps coming up with – but actually you have no choice.

Chrome has a mode called “picture-in-picture” hidden deep inside the browser, allowing you to watch videos while browsing the web in other tabs. It’s like a YouTube mini-player: the video will be recorded at a fraction of the original size and displayed in the corner of the screen. If we had enough, we would have bought a second, or third, screen to watch full-screen videos for the sake of being able to do other things, but if not, this would be a great solution. .

There are two ways to use this feature without installing third-party extensions. The first is the right click. This way, you usually only need to right-click once, but in some cases, you may need to do it twice.

For example, in YouTube, when you right-click a video for the first time, you will see the YouTube menu. You must right-click again to open Chrome’s menu, and now you will see the “Picture in Picture” option. Activate it, the video will be placed in a small window in the corner of the screen, you can freely move it anywhere, or drag it to enlarge if desired.

Obviously, this is not perfect – the only thing you can really do with the minimized video is pause, or switch it back to the original mode. You can’t scroll back and forth with the slider, you can’t turn on the subtitles, you can’t see the volume control button at all.

And yet, this only works well with YouTube videos only; It is disabled with Netflix, Facebook, or Vimeo. Fortunately, we have a second way: install Google’s picture-in-picture extension for Chrome .

Download this extension from the Chrome store, and when the video is playing, click the “picture-in-picture” logo in the upper right corner of the Chrome (as shown below) to activate the same feature as Right-click above – zoom out the video to the corner of the screen and let you drag it wherever you want. Both ways also put an icon on the Chrome tab with the video you are watching.

That’s everything you need to know. Don’t just listen to videos, now you can watch them comfortably!
