The ‘watery’ error of the AirPods Max headset is becoming more and more serious

It seems Apple failed to do some last-minute quality assurance testing before shipping its newest expensive headset. More and more users on Twitter are reporting problems with accumulation of steam inside the Apple Airpods Max ear cups.

Apple started selling AirPods Max on December 15 of last year. Some YouTubers, after receiving the headset for a few hours, posted on Twitter about realizing the accumulation of steam inside their headphones. Initially, this phenomenon was only noted after users used headphones for a long time continuously.

However, more and more users, after learning about a particular AirPods Max crash, checked their devices and reported steam build-up after just a few hours of use.

User @Donaldfilimon said his headphones have never been used in any humid environments. The accumulated water has gotten inside the electronic components of the headphones, causing some sound problems. He also said that it is only used when sitting at his desk and never going outdoors.

User @_manelsoler reported condensation occurred when he was using headphones in Barcelona, Spain, in a room 20 degrees Celsius and after only an hour of using it for music purposes.

Another user reported condensation in the Airpods Max headphones after watching a 1 hour and 34 minute movie.

“After watching the movie, I checked inside both ear cups there was indeed steam,” he shared on Twitter.

Basically, this condensation usually occurs when droplets of water vapor are deposited on a cold surface due to moisture in the air. Most headsets are made of plastic, a lighter material and less susceptible to fluctuations by temperature, usually without this problem. But for the $ 550 AirPods Max, Apple opted for aluminum, a heavier material.

Because of metal’s thermal conductivity, it can absorb heat extremely well. That’s why touching metal poles in winter will feel especially cold. Since the AirPods Max are located near the ear, just away from the body with $ 69 gas pads, wearing them on a cold day can easily build up steam.

In most cases, an influx of air from the outside can correct this. But in the case of the AirPods Max, the earphone stands out for its noise-canceling feature, which uses a sealing pad around the ear. The combination of cold aluminum, body heat and enclosed space is the perfect medium for moisture accumulation.

Currently, Apple has not released a public answer on this matter.
