In other words, Huawei won’t be able to cooperate with chip designers that use US technology to design chips and order them to manufacture them. In addition, chips containing pre-made US technology cannot be supplied to Huawei anymore without a special license issued by the US Department of Commerce. This can make it difficult for both MediaTek or Qualcomm if they want to supply Huawei chips.

The move is seen as a measure to prevent Huawei from attempting to circumvent US trade restrictions. In a statement to CNBC, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Huawei had ” constantly sought ” to circumvent the regulations on chip supply restrictions that were in place in May.

In addition to new chip supply restrictions, the U.S. trade ban further expands the list of Huawei-related entities, adding 38 research facilities and cloud business units. Huawei’s is located in 21 countries, including companies in China, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Russia, South Africa and the UK. The US Commerce Department also repeated the statement that the temporary license allowing the US company to support Huawei products has expired. The move has tightened the siege further with Huawei and left them with only a few chip options for their phones. While Huawei admits that development of high-end Kirin chips will have to stop from September 15, it can still produce some mid-range and low-end Kirin chips by matching chip manufacturers. domestic.
