Today, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has formally designated Huawei and ZTE telecommunications companies as a national security threat.

“With the order issued today, based on strong evidence, the Commission has designated Huawei and ZTE as a national security threat to communications networks in the United States and the future of 5G.” Ajit Pai of the FCC stated: “Both companies have a close relationship with the Chinese Government and the Chinese military apparatus. Both companies must obey Chinese law, and are required to cooperate with Chinese intelligence operations. ”

With the FCC formally designating Huawei and ZTE as a national security threat, telecom carriers in the United States will not be allowed to buy Huawei and ZTE equipment in any way. The FCC has voted to stop the purchase of Huawei and ZTE telecommunications equipment from November last year, but today it has officially taken effect.

Huawei and ZTE have yet to respond. But before that, both companies had repeatedly denied that they were a national security threat to the US. And also denied the relationship with the Chinese Government.

For many years, the US government has been calling on operators large and small to stop using telecommunications equipment from Huawei and ZTE. However, the transition is difficult, because small carriers in the US use Huawei’s telecommunications equipment at a very low cost.

With this new order, Huawei and ZTE’s telecommunications equipment will be completely wiped out in the US, just like with smartphones.
