The reason why the visual effects are always green and 9 filmmakers’ secrets that the audience did not know

When making a film, the directors and producers will always try to make sure that the final product is perfect. But like other industries, they also face many problems in the production process, and sometimes solving them contributes to changing the entire film industry.

1. Why is CGI wallpaper blue?

Watch the post-production of blockbuster movies – from Avengers to Mad Max, most scenes use a green backdrop for special effects. But why green? Absolutely a reason!

Blue is used intentionally, as this is a color that won’t nearly match the natural color of the actors’ hair, skin and eyes. In the case of actors with green eyes, they will use a blue screen.

Of course, when such a feat, accessories, clothing is also not using blue. As a result, post-processing is quicker and simpler.

2. Did you know: 3D movies in the past were really annoying to watch?

Since Avatar, the movie world has been flooded with movies in 3D. But one fact you won’t realize, is that today’s 3D movies give you a much more comfortable experience than before.

In the past, 3D movies used to take advantage of the object effect that flew towards the viewer. The problem is that our brain will not understand that image is just an illusion, but react as if it were real. When overusing this effect, viewers may experience some negative effects: eye strain, dizziness, headache, nausea.

So later on, the effect experts accelerated the speed of the object’s flight, so that the brain didn’t have time to focus on it. Or, they do a 3D effect on small objects (sand, dust, snow), so the brain doesn’t focus on it.

3. Children in horror movies often do not know what they are doing

Most horror movies have children, so young actors often don’t know what kind of movie they’re doing. Scenes are rarely done in chronological order, so it is difficult for a child to have a panoramic view of the film.

Besides, there’s nothing really scary on set. The devil is thanks to post-production techniques, sound, music … so.

4. Who made the movie trailer? Welcome to the advertising agency!

A trailer is a short trailer of a movie, usually lasting about 2 minutes. Logically, the film company will be responsible for making it, because it will be easier and less costly. But not! Mostly, they will hire advertising companies, and they absolutely have a reason to do so.

The truth is, not every film company is good at marketing, and it’s hard for them to understand what is the best way to get viewers to watch it before they hit theaters. So many companies decided to hire advertising professionals, instead of saving some money and causing the film to fail.

5. A mirror shot is the hardest

Mirror footage must always be carefully calculated, placed at a special angle, so that the mirror only reflects the actor and ignores the camera and the light.

For example, in Terminator 2, there is a scene where Linda Hamilton’s character tries to take away the chip in “Terminator” played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Actually, this scene doesn’t have any mirrors. Arnold is seated opposite the camera, and the other nape is actually a dummy.

6. The intentional “grain”

Many movies – including blockbusters – have “grit”, and even very large grits. For example, in The Dark Knight Rises of the Batman series, Batman has a scene of going into a tunnel in the daytime, but when it gets out on the other side, it’s dark.

But know why, directors are sometimes quite clear that movies have “grit”, and they even deliberately left it behind. In the case of Batman, this guy looks more impressive and “better” when appearing at night, and director Christopher Nolan is just enough. Moreover, the filmmakers also believe that the audience will focus on the story being told, instead of those “silly” details.

7. There is a company specializing in snow making for Hollywood

Most of the snow in Hollywood movies is artificial, and most of it comes from a company called Snow Business. The company was founded in 1983, and is capable of creating 200 different types of snow.

But why not use real snow? The reason is because they are too difficult to control, can melt at any time and easily ruin footage. Still, there are a number of movies shot on real snow, like The Revenant – the first Oscar-winning film for Leonardo Dicaprio to have been shot at a ski resort in Canada.

8. Mass actors must never look at the camera

Mass actors – especially those in the auditorium – have very strict requirements. They will not be looking directly at the lens to create a natural feeling, and may even be kicked out of the studio if violated. Besides, they must not wear clothes that are too prominent because it will distract the audience from the main character in the scene.

9. The food in the movie is rarely genuine

Most scenes that show food – especially parties – are not food. The reason is easy to understand: real food does not hold long, and the film can not be filmed in 1 day!

For example, the party scene in Harry Potter for example! Only the first part of the movie uses real food. As for part 2, most dishes are made from rosin.
