What does a smartphone need to attract and retain Gen Z buyers? The Apple logo is all it takes, according to a recent Financial Times report.

34% of iPhone owners in the US are Gen Z, while only 10% of Samsung users are from this generation.

This group of potential users could be the key to growth for Apple. Apple’s smartphone market share in the US has grown from 35% in 2019 to 50% in 2022. A huge contributor to this increase is Gen Z.

Gen Z interest in iPhones remains strong even as the average iPhone price hits $1,000, which is three times that of Android phones and could grow even more this year.

American teenagers and people in their twenties are so fascinated by Apple that they feel socially alienated if they give up the iPhone. This not only helps Apple sell more iPhones, but also allows them to sell more other products.

Apple sells 26 iPads, 17 Apple Watches, and 35 pairs of AirPods for every 100 iPhones. Meanwhile, Samsung sold only 11 tablets, 6 smartwatches and 6 headsets for every 100 smartphones.

Apple has a tight-knit ecosystem, and it’s incredibly easy to pair Apple devices together, providing the ultimate user experience.

Social media usage also indicates that some young iPhone users don’t appreciate Android users. GenZ brand strategist Jakob Ledermann says this is worrying because Gen Z is supposed to be an inclusive and diverse generation.

However, there is currently one product that has the ability to make Gen Z move away from the iPhone: the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. This model has been a big hit in Korea, and flip phones are also gaining popularity in the US.
