The message behind India is removing 118 Chinese apps

With the same scenario and the same reasons, India on September 2 ordered a further ban on 118 Chinese applications or originating in China. The ban stems from escalating tensions between the two countries stemming from the deaths of more than 20 Indian soldiers in clashes with China at the border in June.

The Indian government’s strong response showed some points that other countries in the world could easily “imitate”, such as the US and Japan. If this happens on a global scale, Chinese applications will be in unprecedented difficulty, opening up opportunities for non-Chinese developers to rise.

Apple and Google must obey the rules of the game

There is no reason for online stores like Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store to ignore the request of governments. 59 apps were removed in June and now 118 more are removed, showing that India has enough legal tools to manage cross-border app stores.

Apple and Google have the right to refuse this request, but that means a huge risk will be incurred in the billion-population market, second only to China. That is not to mention Apple is planning to move part of iPhone production to India, and Google also plans to invest $ 10 billion in this market in the next 5-7 years with an Indian-American CEO.

Game tens of millions of players are also difficult to escape

In both Chinese app bans, India was very aggressive with the million-player mobile games in this country. As a result, even famous games like PUBG Mobile suffer the same fate with Rules of Survival, Lien Quan Mobile, Mobile Legends, or Onmyouji …

These are all G1 games licensed in Vietnam but have been removed in India for the reason of “prejudice to territorial integrity and integrity, national defense, state security and public order” , implying that the aforementioned games are transferring user data out of Indian territory.

Of course, Indian users can bypass the rules to play international versions of the aforementioned games. But it still shows how strong the Indian government can be with illegal products with no exceptions to games.

The Indian outsourcing industry has been thriving, but it is not enough

Encourage the development of domestic goods

Removing products by the tens of millions of users, India also encourages the development of domestic products at the same time. This is a golden opportunity for India’s software industry to surge, first of all, ‘squeezing out’ the huge number of users left behind after this Chinese application double-removal.

Of course, the story of having an alternative game product is not simple, like TikTok banned in India and the series of Indian-origin clones emerged in June. However, if not starting now Now, India will probably never be able to catch up with China’s shadow in game development, even though its outsourcing industry is number 1 in the world.
