Huawei’s flagship smartphones always have high-rated cameras, but Huawei is thinking of ways to continue to improve the quality of photography even further. One of the initiatives that Huawei has launched is the use of interchangeable lenses like professional cameras. This initiative will probably be applied on Huawei P50, launched in early 2021.
A source from the European Union Intellectual Property Office has revealed Huawei’s new patent. While not providing specific details, the source also revealed photos and a few descriptions so we can see what Huawei’s new initiative will look like.
According to this patent, Huawei’s smartphone, instead of having a rear camera module with multiple lenses, has only one lens. However, this lens is removable and interchangeable.
The size of the lens is also quite large, much larger than the conventional camera lens on smartphones. Thanks to that, the ability to zoom, receive light will also be significantly improved. Although this is just a newly registered patent, leaked sources reveal that Huawei P50 may be equipped with this interchangeable lens.
If true, this would be a significant change, not only for Huawei but also for the smartphone industry. However, changing the lens on a smartphone can also cause a lot of inconvenience, as you will have to carry many different lenses and changing the lens will also take quite some time.
Let’s wait and see, will Huawei make this bold change? At the moment, Huawei is having a hard time selling new smartphones outside of China.
