The glowing apple logo may return on future MacBooks

Tram Ho

Once a very common image at fancy cafes, Apple’s glowing apple logo was a recognizable feature on MacBooks released in the early 2000s. However, by 2015, Apple had replaced with flat logo. By 2018, the MacBook Air also used a new logo design and officially ended the legendary glowing apple logo design on the MacBook.

Recently, there has been a sign that Apple may bring the glowing apple logo back on future MacBooks. Filed by Apple in May 2022 and recently approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office, the new Apple patent describes the design of a “mirror-structured electronic device with a backlight.” .

Although not exactly mentioning the MacBook, but there is no doubt about Apple’s purpose when using this new patent. The description of the patent says:

“An electronic device such as a laptop or other device may have a case. Components such as the display and keyboard can be mounted in the case. The back of the case can be fitted with a logo. Logos or other structures in the case may have a reflective mirror design with a bottom backlight. Mirrors give logos or other structures a shiny look and prevent the contents from being seen. At the same time, the transparency of the mirror allows the light to shine from the inside to the outside.”

According to this description, it is very likely that future MacBooks will be equipped with an apple logo with a mirror coating and a glowing backlight at the bottom. Help revive the icon of the old MacBook. It is not excluded that Apple can integrate many new features, such as using the logo’s backlight to notify when there is a message.

Besides, Apple also mentioned other devices besides laptops. Is it possible that Apple will equip the glowing apple logo for handheld devices such as iPhone or iPad? We can’t confirm that right now, but we can hope that such a bold change is entirely possible in the future.
