The first VinFast VF e34 to try to run a taxi – how much does it cost, is it appropriate or not?

Tram Ho

VinFast VF e34 is one of the car models that has attracted the greatest attention of the Vietnamese car user community in the past few months. This is the first electric car produced and sold in the domestic market. There are too many questions related to the use and performance of this model when the number of cars in the hands of users in the early stages is quite small.

Recently, a Facebook user named NTH contributed to answering questions for the car lover community with a one-day trial of running a taxi in Hanoi with the VF e34. This information is being shared strongly on car-using groups on social networks, especially electric-vehicle groups.

According to this user’s share, the total distance he ran in the test was 205 km. When starting to run, the battery of the car has 98% capacity and when it comes back to 7%.

Actual passenger mileage is 127 km. He estimated the after-tax taxi price when running in the street was 11,500 VND/km, the total amount collected was 1.45 million VND.

The expenses that Mr. NTH have to pay include the charge of fully charging the battery with 147,000 electricity bills, 20% discount of the ride-hailing platform, equivalent to VND 290,000. The battery rental fee of VF e34 is calculated by package, temporarily calculated at 60,000 VND/day. Thus, his total income is 953,000 VND .

Mr. H. also calculated that with a petrol car, he would have to spend about 400,000 VND for petrol (equivalent to 16 liters) for the distance of 205 km in the city. Thus, the amount received is about 760,000 VND.

According to this calculation, with the same taxi distance, the driver will earn about 193,000 VND for a working day.

Of course, this calculation is not completely accurate because with only one day of taxi testing, the driver cannot calculate all the variables that occur on the road, leading to erroneous results in the test.

However, from the calculations of Mr. H., one can also somewhat estimate the operating cost of a popular electric vehicle compared to a petrol car.

In fact, at the time of product announcement, VinFast also confirmed that the cost of battery rental + charging of the VF e34 will be equivalent to the cost of fueling petrol cars in the same segment. However, electric vehicle users will benefit in a number of factors such as low maintenance costs due to less breakdown of electric vehicles, and the ability to operate the vehicle is also slightly quieter due to the absence of engine noise. In addition, in a time of sharp increase in gasoline prices like today, choosing an electric car will become even more reasonable.

Of course, the biggest concern of electric vehicles will still be the limited range (with VF e34 is about 285 km for a single charge) while the new charging infrastructure system is only at the initial stage, not yet convenient. like a gas station. Charging a car at home or at a current public charging station is more troublesome than refueling.

VinFast VF e34 is an electric car in the C-segment SUV segment, using a 42 kWh battery, a motor with a capacity of 147 horsepower and 242 Nm of torque. The cost of charging the car at a public charging station is 2,834 VND/km (excluding VAT), the battery subscription fee is 657,000 VND/month for a maximum distance of 500 km. Beyond 500 km, guests have to pay a fee of 1,315 VND/km.

The listed selling price of this model is VND 690 million. However, in the early stages, the manufacturer launched a lot of incentives for pre-order customers. In addition, electric vehicle buyers in Vietnam will also receive a 100% discount on registration fees if they register after March 1.
