Anneka Patel, a Facebook communications director, wrote in a LinkedIn post on November 14 that she was one of thousands of employees affected by Meta’s mass layoffs.

According to Patel, she received Meta’s resignation email at 5:35 a.m. This happened after some co-workers texted her, saying they had been fired.

Patel is still on maternity leave.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Patel manages communications for Meta’s community product teams, including Facebook groups. In May 2020, she was also honored to be named in Business Insider’s list of top experts in the public relations industry. She had worked at Meta for two and a half years, and her sudden early morning layoff really took a toll on her psyche.

Within a week, Patel’s post received nearly 12,000 interactions and 560 comments.

Previously, Patel was expected to take maternity leave until the end of February next year.

“For those who have known me for a long time, working at Facebook (now Meta) has been my dream since I moved from London to San Francisco Bay 9 years ago,” Patel expressed regret. She added that she plans to spend time with her three-month-old baby before looking for a new job.

On 9/11, Meta announced it would cut more than 11,000 employees, or about 13% of its workforce.

I was wrong and I take responsibility for it ,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized in a blog post. The 38-year-old billionaire added that layoffs were a “last resort” and said ” cost-cutting changes ” would continue in the coming months.

Patel is one of hundreds of former employees who write about their experience being fired by Meta on LinkedIn. Several sources familiar with the matter said that some of Meta’s software engineers were laid off just two or three days after moving from India to the company’s Canadian office.

Meta’s recent mass layoffs marked a turning point for a tech empire whose business model once seemed untouchable despite years of privacy controversies.

While some might attribute Meta’s decline to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s obsession with the metaverse project, according to Yahoo News, that was just one factor that caused the company’s stock price to drop as much as 70% in the past year. last year. Other big causes include the growth of short-video platform TikTok, Apple’s privacy changes affecting ad revenue, and a lack of Gen Z users.
