The Fall of FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried’s Story Coming Soon

Tram Ho

Hollywood sees this as a rare opportunity to create a hit movie. With Sam Bankman-Fried currently facing criminal charges that could carry a prison sentence of more than 130 years, any filmmaker doesn’t want to pass up an opportunity to reimagine the story of FTX.

The entertainment industry has seen plenty of success with movies or series about failed entrepreneurs, such as Hulu’s The Dropout or Apple TV’s WeCrashed, and financial crashes, like The Wolf of Wall Street or The Big Short.

Here are some projects on TV series, movies, documentary series about the FTX cryptocurrency exchange crash that may be released in the future.

Apple negotiates millions of dollars to own movie rights about Sam Bankman-Fried

Perhaps the most famous of all the FTX projects in development is an adaptation of Michael Lewis’s forthcoming book on Sam Bankman-Fried. Lewis, author of The Big Short, Moneyball and Flash Boys spent 6 months accompanying and interviewing Sam Bankman-Fried.

Lewis’ interview process continued even after Bankman-Fried’s arrest. This writer went to Sam’s bail in the past month to continue the interview.

Although Lewis’ book initially focuses on the rapid rise of Bankman-Fried, the fall of FTX provides a dramatic surprise ending to the story.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis introduced his film and television rights to Apple. The source said that Apple may have to spend millions of dollars to be able to own this copyright.

Amazon plans to make a series about FTX

Amazon Studios has also put its own FTX movie project into production. The company has ordered a series from Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind Marvel’s two most recent Avengers movies.

According to Variety, the Russo brothers will produce the eight-episode series through production company ABGO.

According to Variety, many Marvel actors are in the process of discussing joining the film, although details about the role have yet to be revealed. The Russo brothers described Sam Bankman-Fried as “an extremely mysterious figure with complex motives” who carried out “one of the most blatant frauds ever committed”.

New York Magazine and Vox Media documentary

Besides the previously mentioned scripted adaptation, New York Magazine and Vox Media are also collaborating on a documentary based on Bankman-Fried’s crumbling crypto empire.

Documentary film entitled “SBF and the end of Silicon Valley”
