The Exynos 992 chip on the Galaxy Note 20 may no longer shame Samsung

Samsung is one of the few smartphone makers that makes chips for their own devices, alongside Apple and Huawei. However, Samsung also uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor chip, in addition to its own Exynos. And the fact is that Exynos chips are always underrated.

Earlier this year, the Korean giant decided to release the Galaxy S20 version with Snapdragon 865 chip in its home country, replacing the Exynos 990 chip version. Although this is good news for users in Korea, but is also a disappointment for Samsung.

However, the Exynos 992 equipped on the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 may no longer shame Samsung, nor will it disappoint users.

According to a report by ZDNet Korea, Samsung has completed the preparation steps to mass produce 5nm Exynos 992 processors. The source adds that Samsung is considering whether to equip this new generation processor chip for the Galaxy Note 20 series or not.

Exynos 992 alone will give Exynos 992 improved performance and battery efficiency over its 7nm Exynos 990 predecessor. However, this is not the only upgrade of Exynos 992.

Besides, Exynos 992 will use the Cortex-A78 CPU and Mali-G78 GPU. The Cortex-A78 CPU core on the 5nm process can save up to 50% power and 20% higher processing performance, compared to the Cortex-A77 CPU on the 7nm process (in Snapdragon 865 processor). ARM also claims that the 5nm Mali-G78 GPU is 25% stronger than the 7nm Mali-G77.

However, as usual, Samsung will launch the new generation processor on the Galaxy S series first. Therefore, ZDNet Korea is not sure whether Exynos 992 will be released with the Galaxy Note 20, or we may have to wait until the beginning of the year after Samsung launches the Galaxy S30.

However, there is a lot of expectation that the Exynos chip line will make a big step, and will not disappoint users and Samsung ashamed.
