The Apple A13 and A14 chips crushed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 in the first benchmark test

Tram Ho

Qualcomm recently announced the benchmarks of the recently launched high-end Snapdragon 888 chip and is expected to appear on high-end Android smartphones by 2021. Although the chip’s benchmarks are extremely Although the Snapdragon 888 is still respectable, it still lags behind Apple’s A13 and A14 chips.

According to AnandTech, the Snapdragon 888 chip scored 1,135 single-core and 3,794 multi-core in Geekbench 5 test.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro running the A14 chip scored 1,603 points in the single-core test and 4,187 points in the multi-core test.

For the iPhone 11 Pro equipped with the A13 chip, the device scored 1,331 points in the single-core test and 3,366 in the multi-core test. So perhaps the Snapdragon 888 really only outperformed the A13 in multicore testing, though not by too much.

In addition, Qualcomm also shares benchmark results from graphics testing using the GFXBench tool. Specifically, Snapdragon 888 recorded 86 frames per second, behind iPhone SE, iPhone 11 series and iPhone 12. Anandtech said that Snapdragon 888 can surpass depending on power consumption:

“Although the Snapdragon 888 doesn’t seem to match the highest performance score of the A13 or the A14 on Apple’s iPhone, the sustained performance will depend quite a bit on the chip’s power consumption. By 4.5W, most Android flagships released in 2021 can maintain this top performance and allow Qualcomm to reclaim the throne of mobile performance from Apple.

The benchmark score shows that the A14 chip is still the most “dominant” chip in the current chip market

The bencmark graphics score continues to show the superiority of the Apple A-series chips

Apple’s A-series chip is still “something more than the rest of the mobile chip world,” according to benchmarks. It is really strong compared to its competitors. It is especially noteworthy that the A13 chip still has its own place even with the top chips for Android smartphones.

On the other hand, it should be considered that the Snapdragon 888 has indeed made significant improvements over its predecessor. In fact, the CPU performance of the Snapdragon 888 increased by 25% while the GPU performance increased by 35%.
