The A15 chip on the iPhone is still slightly better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the Galaxy S22 series

Recently, a performance test conducted by PCMag showed that Samsung’s most advanced flagship, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, is still inferior to the iPhone 13 Pro.

PCMag said that although the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the current “most powerful” Android smartphone, when put on the scale and compared with the iPhone 13 Pro duo, the “Samsung” flagship still cannot surpass the “home team” Apple”.

In the performance test with Geekbench 5, the Galaxy S22 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip achieved 3433 points in multi-core performance and 1232 points in single-core performance, of which 338 points were achieved in machine learning performance.

On the Apple side, iPhone 13 Pro Max with Apple A15 Bionic chip reached 4647 multi-core performance points and 1735 single-core performance points, machine learning score reached 948 points (double that of Galaxy S22 Ultra).

Meanwhile, for the web browsing performance test using Basemark Web, the Galaxy S22 series gives an 8% improvement in performance compared to its predecessor, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max still gives a score twice that of Samsung. This is explained by the difference between the two Safari browsers on the iPhone and Google Chrome on the new Galaxy S devices.

Performance assessments also show that there is a decrease in performance due to a significant increase in machine temperature while the Galaxy S22 series runs the tests. PCMag said that during performance testing, the Galaxy S22 Ultra “warmed up quickly, and as soon as a certain temperature was reached, the performance score dropped significantly”.

Of course, the performance test is for reference only and it does not accurately reflect what users experience every day. However, we cannot deny that the Apple A15 Bionic chip is indeed the leader in performance as well as energy saving.
