Surface Duo will be equipped with Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB RAM, and AMOLED screen

Tram Ho

The Surface Neo has been delayed indefinitely, and the Surface Duo is expected to launch on schedule. And although Microsoft hasn’t disclosed much about the specific configuration of the machine, some sources have provided us with fairly reliable details.

In general, the configuration of the Surface Duo will be in the mid-range segment – a common decision of OEMs when they want to focus more on a new form factor instead of configuration. Microsoft’s dual-screen smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, a high-end SoC launched last year by Qualcomm. It also has 6GB RAM and 64 or 256GB storage memory. And the Surface Duo will most likely have an 11MP camera on the inside.

As for the screen, it will have two 5.6-inch screens, 4: 3 aspect ratio, 1800×1350 resolution – both using AMOLED panels. The battery will have a capacity of 3,460mAh, and there is no expansion card slot.

If you’re wondering why Microsoft has only equipped the Surface Duo with a mid-range configuration, it’s probably because they can’t make quick changes like other OEMs. The Snapdragon 865 chipset requires a phone with 5G integration – a requirement that Microsoft didn’t know when they designed the Surface Duo. However, every other OEM smartphone is now adapting to this condition.

What about other mid-range specs like 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on the base version? No one knows the reason for Microsoft’s decision. Regarding the single 11MP camera, perhaps due to the limitations stemming from the device’s form factor. The device is not equipped with an external camera because there is no screen there to use as a viewfinder. The other 11MP camera will also take on the role of both the front and back cameras.

Thus, the biggest remaining question is probably the selling price. Microsoft’s Surface devices aren’t cheap, if not premium. And dual-screen smartphones are not a unique thing, as LG has such devices, and they have debuted for the 3rd generation already!
