Successfully installed Windows 10 on a pocket computer

Installing the Windows operating system on non-computer devices has become one of the “pleasures” of developers. We’ve seen the Raspberry Pi run Windows perfectly, instead of last year, a hacker even completely replaced Android with Windows 10 on the OnePlus 6T. However, to be able to install Windows 10 on a pocket PC, it is unbelievable.

Indeed, recently, a programmer named Ben with the nickname @imbushuo on Twitter came up with an idea to install Windows 10 version of IoT Core on the HP Prime Graphing Calculator handheld computer. As the name implies, this pocket calculator is more advanced than most handheld computers today when it comes with a 320 x 240 color screen to display the graphical interface. .

The first step is quite successful

Despite this, Ben initially encountered many obstacles when trying to install Windows 10 on this pocket computer. Although Windows 10 IoT Core was designed by Microsoft to be able to run on small devices with or without screens, at the first startup, Ben immediately met the “blue screen of death”. The computer screen is so small that it doesn’t even display an error code.

A blue screen is displayed

After a few tweaks and reboots, Ben was able to boot into the Boot Manager of Windows 10. However, we have only seen the boot logo of Windows 10 appear, and Ben We haven’t shared any more photos of using Windows 10 directly on this pocket PC. The project is still under development, so we need to wait a bit longer for this guy to optimize the system.

And here is the result!

For those who don’t know, the HP Prime Graphing Calculator has only 256MB of RAM. It’s hard to imagine what it would be like to experience the experience of using Windows 10, even if it is an IoT Core version on a device with such a low RAM capacity.
