According to the above sources, billionaire Elon Musk’s company has applied to the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology to deploy the Starlink service in the country. In addition, SpaceX will also set up a representative company in Korea to complete the business registration process.

Last year, SpaceX successfully launched 46 more Starlink Internet satellites into orbit. According to the company, the Starlink satellites will provide high-speed broadband Internet to locations where Internet connections are unstable, expensive, or completely unavailable.

At the end of December last year, on the official Twitter account, SpaceX announced that there were more than 1 million active users using the Starlink service.

However, this is not news to please Starlink customers. According to a September report by Ookla, the average download speed of the Starlink service in the second quarter of 2022 decreased in all countries compared to the same period last year. The reduction ranges from 9% – 54% depending on the region. Typically, the average download speed of users in the US at the lowest is about 60 Mbps.

According to Ookla, the reason may be that Starlink’s infrastructure is not keeping up with user growth. In May 2022, there were more than 400,000 people using Starlink, and after the service dropped in August, more users signed up for the service.
