Sony LinkBuds launched: Ring design, going against the anti-noise trend, whether it’s good or bad, but netizens praised the name first

After making a strong impression with the pair of WH and WF-1000XM4 with excellent noise cancellation, Sony has continued to make the technology community excited with a new pair of wireless headphones called LinkBuds.
The most impressive point turned out to be this name. Instead of naming codes with confusing letters and numbers like hundreds of other products, Sony now gives it a very easy to remember and easy to understand name: LinkBuds. Although it does not create a genuine feeling like “AirPods Pro” or “Buds Pro”, basically, reading the name makes people immediately recognize it as a headset (Buds). Meanwhile, the word “Link” symbolizes the connection between the user and the outside world, because this headset has an opening so that the user can always hear the surrounding sound clearly.
Basically, LinkBuds is a very ordinary looking wireless headset, but the driver is “punched” with a hole in the middle. The size of the product is also significantly reduced by Sony, fitting inside the ear instead of protruding out as much as the WF-1000XM4.
This design was studied by Sony from the data system, information collected about the human ear when it started creating the first headphones. The ring of LinkBuds is large enough not to fall out of the ear, but also compact enough to feel comfortable, perfect for those with small ears who can’t wear in-ear form.
The headset has a figure of 8 to help LinkBuds securely attach to the ear, limiting falling out and also has additional Wingtips. Combining both an open design, IPX4 water resistance and a tight grip, this product is sure to excite outdoor enthusiasts.
Since last year Sony started to focus very much on environmental protection. In addition to the box made entirely of paper, LinkBuds now also uses recycled plastic from old cars.
In terms of sound quality, the LinkBuds line is only counted as a mid-range segment, so there isn’t too much high-end technology. However, the company still integrates the ability to upgrade music quality DSEE HX, V1 sound processor, 12mm speaker driver. According to Sony advertising is for vivid sound, clear mid and high range. Of course, because it is an open earphone, the bass is definitely not equal to in-ear headphones.
Two small but very nice features of LinkBuds are control by touching the skin in front of the ear to open a certain feature instead of touching the earphone case directly. The product also has an always-on microphone, which continuously measures outside noise to adjust the volume for the best fit. It also features Speak-to-Chat, hands-free chat with Google/Amazon virtual assistants, and compatibility with Sony 360 Reality Audio and Microsoft Soundscape audio technologies.
The battery life of LinkBuds is quite a big minus point. The pair of headphones alone lasts 5.5 hours and the charging case only provides 12 more hours, ⅔ to ½ lower than similar products.
In the US, Sony will sell LinkBuds for $ 179, equivalent to about 4 million. It is predicted that the product will soon return to Vietnam for about 4.5 – 5 million VND with 2 colors of matte white and matte gray.
