Sony Alpha 1 camera has a problem with the IBIS sensor stabilization system

The Sony Alpha 1 is the latest and most powerful camera from the Japanese manufacturer, which includes sensor stabilization (IBIS) for sharper images at slow shutter speeds. . However, some photographers have reported that the IBIS feature has an error, sometimes not working for a few seconds after turning on the camera.

Photographer Jamieson Dean made a video showing the fault on his Alpha 1. The IBIS system sometimes went down for a short time, causing him to miss important photo moments. “I realized this error about a week after I bought the machine on March 26. I reported the error to Sony, and they wanted me to make a video explaining the error so that they could send it to their technical department.”

After receiving a replacement machine this error occurred again. “Until the problem was not completely resolved, I decided to upload a video for everyone to know. There are quite a few people who have had the same situation.”

Mr. Dean said that he did this not to attack Sony and also felt grateful for what its customer service department did for him. He said that he enjoyed all the other features of the machine, but the issue of anti-vibration made it not perfect.

“Some people say their camera has no problems but then change their mind when performing tests. Those who use lenses with optical image stabilization (OIS) will not notice because of the image. already passed a layer of anti-shake. I also watched a few review videos of Youtubers and noticed that their IBIS system didn’t work for a few shots.”

In addition, when used with video, this phenomenon will not occur because the IBIS system needs to operate continuously and does not need to be reactivated like shooting still images. Those who use a handheld camera will easily notice it, so if you usually shoot with a tripod, you will not see the error.

The Petapixel site has contacted Sony and has not received a response from the company. In addition to the IBIS system error, a small number of users also reported that the proximity sensor of the EVF electronic viewfinder sometimes fails, not automatically turning on the viewfinder when placed on the eye. Both of these issues appear to be software-related, and the company should be able to fix it easily with a future update.
