Not long ago, Sony announced its decision to close down the digital stores of PS3, PlayStation Vita and PSP. These digital stores are places where gamers can buy and download digital versions of games for these platforms.
Recently, however, Sony has admitted that it was a wrong decision. Sony said it will still open the digital stores of PS3 and PlayStation Vita. The PSP digital store will remain closed July 2, 2021, as originally planned.
Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan said: “After further review, it is clear that we made a wrong decision here. So today I am pleased to announce that we will continue to maintain the operation of the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices.
Initially, Sony planned to close down the PS3 and Vita digital stores by the end of March. That made it impossible for customers to buy digital copies of the games for these systems, instead. customers will have to buy game discs out of the store, which is very inconvenient.
Sony said the reason for this decision was “stemming from a number of factors, including difficulties in continuing to support older devices and focusing more resources on new devices like the PS5. “.
After making this announcement, Sony was strongly opposed by the owners of PS3 and PS Vita. PlayStation 3 was released in November 2006, has been nearly 15 years now, but still has a large number of users are using this system.
