According to Business Insider, John Carmack, the CTO of Meta’s virtual reality business, has left the company with an internal post criticizing Meta and its efforts to develop VR and metaverse products.

Carmack writes: “ This is the end of my decade with the company’s virtual reality business. Things can go faster and better if more decisions are made .”

One of the main reasons for his departure was the inefficiency of Meta’s operations.

We have an absurd amount of people and resources. But we are constantly self-sabotaging and wasting our efforts. There is no way to hide this inefficiencies. I assume the organization is operating at half efficiency. Some people even work at one-quarter efficiency ,” says Crackman.

The director said that as a senior voice, he felt he could make a change but was not convinced. According to him, most of the proposals he makes are only resolved after a year or two, when the evidence on the related issue has piled up.

I’ve never been able to get rid of stupid things before they cause damage or direct a team to keep a close eye on,” Crackman writes. I’m tired of the wars .”

According to Business Insider, Meta’s Quest 2 virtual reality headset has Crackman’s major contribution. In the message, he highly appreciated the product and said it was ” something I wanted to see from day one “.

However, he still believes that virtual reality can bring value to most people in the world and ” no company is better equipped to do it than Meta “.

Sharing on Twitter, Crackman said he was ” always quite disappointed with the way things were done at Meta “. In an interview this past August, he said that the $10 billion loss due to the company’s augmented and virtual reality division made him feel “sorrowful”.

In an internal message, he criticized several features of Meta’s virtual reality product and expressed his opinion that the company should put user experience first when it comes to how the metaverse is built.

Carmack became Oculus’ first chief technology officer in 2013 after he left id Software. He then joined Meta when Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion in 2014. In 2019, he stepped down from Oculus and acted solely as CTO as a mentor to focus on Artificial Intelligence. artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial intelligence (AI) projects that are capable of doing some of the things humans do.

When Meta turned to metaverse development, Crackman’s role became even more important because the metaverse is where virtual reality elements play a big role.

Crackman is now focusing on his startup Keen Technologies. This unit is working on developing several AI systems. This year, they have successfully raised 20 million USD in investment capital.
