Samsung smartphones are about to have a 120 Hz screen thanks to the brand new Exynos chip

It also has a new 5G modem called Exynos Modem 5123. It is the first 5G modem manufactured using the 7nm EUV process. The 53 Exynos 5123 Modem supports all network technologies, including 6G spectrum, mmWave 5G to 2G, 3G and 4G LTE. This 5G modem can provide a maximum download speed of up to 5.1 Gbps on 5G or up to 3.0 Gbps when working with 4G networks.

Samsung's new Exynos 990 chip

Exynos 990 uses ARM Mali-G77 GPU, promising to bring higher processor performance and 20% more energy savings than its predecessor. Overall processor performance is enhanced by around 20% with a flexible three-core CPU architecture including two custom cores, two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Exynos 990 is that it has a driver for a monitor with a 120 Hz scan rate. This will open up opportunities for Samsung to equip future smartphones with a 120 Hz screen. The company itself acknowledges that this will make smartphone displays smoother, even on foldable designs.

Because AI is the current trend, Exynos 990 also has a dedicated NPU. It is a dual-core NPU with an improved digital signal processor capable of performing over ten trillion operations per second. With NPU, AI can assist with processing all data on the device and help improve features such as facial recognition, scene detection.

With support for LPDDR5 memory and an advanced image signal processor that can support up to six individual image sensors as well as process three of them at the same time, the Exynos 990 can enable specialized photography. with a resolution of up to 108 megapixels.

Samsung has yet to mention which new Exynos 990 chip will be used in future smartphones. The company says that Exynos 990 and Exynos Modem 5123 will go into mass production by the end of this year. This means we can expect them to appear on Samsung devices early next year.
