Although Samsung dominates the OLED display market for mobile products such as smartphones, it may still lag behind LG in terms of OLED display technology.

Indeed LG has become a big name in the OLED TV market. LG's OLED TV products impress with precise light control because each pixel self-emits light. Meanwhile, quantum dot LCD technology, or Samsung called QLED, still depends on the LED backlight located behind each pixel.

However, Samsung is gradually improving the technology and promises to be able to cause mutations thanks to a new solution called QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED).

Recently, two Samsung researchers, Dr. Eunjoo Jang and Yu-Ho Won, have published a new display technology in the journal Nature. New quantum dot LED technology uses indium phosphides instead of toxic cadmium.

Especially, the lifespan of this screen can be up to millions of hours. Thanks to the improved quantum dot structure, the new LED technology can increase display efficiency by preventing oxidation and energy leakage.

According to the team, their new display solution improves quantum efficiency by 21.4% and increases the life of QLED displays by up to 1 million hours.

Jang said: "Thanks to Samsung's special materials technology, we have been able to discover the potential of the new generation of displays. environmentally friendly by adopting a new quantum dot structure. This study allows us to produce high-performance quantum dot displays regardless of the shell thickness. "

Back in 2015, Samsung launched a cadmium-free quantum dot TV that was environmentally friendly.

Recently, Samsung also announced that it will invest about US $ 11 billion between now and 2025 to build a QLED TV factory with self-illuminating pixels.

Samsung is not without interest in OLED technology, only that it has realized the limitations of OLED display technology, which is the state of burn-in after a period of use. That's why Samsung decided to stop developing OLED TVs and shift to the next generation LED TV technology, QLED.
