Samsung Display Vietnam suddenly reported a record loss

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Group has just released the financial figures for the first 6 months of 2020, including the business results of 4 companies in Vietnam.

Accordingly, the total revenue of Samsung Bac Ninh, Samsung Thai Nguyen, Samsung Display and Samsung HCMC CE Complex is 27 billion USD, equivalent to about 650 trillion VND. In terms of profit, these companies profit 1.73 billion USD, equivalent to about 13 trillion VND.

In the second quarter of 2020 alone, Samsung’s revenue and profit both dropped sharply, reaching about 268 trillion dong and 13 trillion dong, respectively. This is Samsung’s lowest revenue since 2017 and its lowest profit since the beginning of 2019.

In the revenue structure of Samsung in Q2 / 2020, only Samsung HCMC CE Complex went flat, while the rest of the companies saw a sharp decrease in revenue compared to the previous quarters. Samsung Bac Ninh earned about 69 trillion dong, while Samsung Thai Nguyen earned 116 trillion dong, the lowest in more than 3 years.

On the profit side, display company Samsung Display reported a loss of about 2.7 trillion dong after it had made a profit 4 quarters earlier. The number of losses in the second quarter of 2020 is also much higher than that of the first quarter of 2019 or the period of 2016.

While Samsung Display lost money, Samsung Bac Ninh and Samsung Thai Nguyen’s profits both decreased compared to the first quarter of 2020 but increased slightly if compared with the same period in 2019.
