Samsung has taken a giant leap in experience with the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2, thanks to its groundbreaking folding screen design. It can be said that Samsung is still leading the trend of folding screen smartphones, other manufacturers are also starting to have to follow Samsung’s design. And in the near future, the Korean giant may continue to make breakthrough changes on the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Samsung has just been granted a patent called “Galaxy Z Fold Squeeze Gesture”. Because using the physical buttons on the side of a folding smartphone can be difficult, Samsung wants to replace these buttons with gesture controls. That means the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will probably get rid of the physical buttons altogether.

Side-by-side gestures, like tap, hold, or swipe, can take the place of power/screen lock buttons or volume controls. The operation can also be done on both sides of the folding screen smartphone, instead of being equipped only on one side like the previous physical buttons.

Users can swipe up or down to adjust the volume, can tap lightly to open the screen, and can hold to turn the smartphone on or off. According to LetsGo Digital, future foldable devices will become thinner and thinner, so the physical buttons will need to be removed and replaced with gesture operations like Samsung’s idea.
