Surprisingly, the US ranked 18th, while Germany and France were lowest on the list.

The smartphone addiction scale is widely used to measure smartphone addiction. It includes aspects such as impact on daily life, uncontrolled smartphone use, and smartphone addiction.

The study subjects were 15 to 35 years old and the mean age was 28.8 years old, the majority of subjects were women (60%).

Some researchers also calculated each country’s smartphone usage problems, which ranged from 10 to 60. China ranked highest with a score of 36/60.

The reason behind the difference in scores between different countries is that social norms and cultural expectations are related to motivations to stay connected via smartphones. Countries like Germany and France are different when individualism and a culture that promotes freedom lead to lower smartphone addiction scores.

Overall, it is found that smartphone addiction is on the rise globally and can lead to very serious “psychological consequences”.

Smartphone addiction has increased worldwide between 2014 and 2020, and this trend is certain to continue into the future.

The study was recently published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior.
