What is ChatGPT that makes Google red alert?

ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by Open AI, launched on November 30, 2022. After only 5 days, millions of users have signed up for this tool. ChatGPT is rated as ‘answering questions like a real person’, able to present ideas logically, with depth and extremely fluently for complex questions. Rated as a more powerful tool than any chatbot has ever been, ChatGPT can write scripts, write college-level essays, write content…

When ChatGPT was first launched, many test users said that ‘ChatGPT can replace Google’s search engine’. Previously, Google ignored such comments and said ‘nothing to worry about’. But just a month later, Google’s executive team suddenly “turned the wheel” and panicked at the potential threat of this chatbot. Even just before Christmas, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, hastily issued a ‘Code Red’ to the entire company because ChatGPT is becoming too explosive globally.

Who is the father of ChatGPT?

Samuel H. Altman is the father of ChatGPT. He was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, of Jewish descent. He attended high school at the John Burroughs School and then studied computer science at Stanford University. However, in 2005, Altman decided to drop out, and in 2017 received an honorary degree from the University of Waterloo.

It is known that in 2005, Altman and his friends founded Loopt – a mobile application and location-based social network and became the CEO of this startup. Loopt raised $30 million, but closed in 2012 because it failed to attract attention. This startup was later acquired by Green Dot Corporation for $43.4 million.

Altman started working as a part-time partner at popular startup incubator Y Combinato in 2011. In February 2014, he was appointed president of Y Combinato. Two years later, Altman became the chairman of YC Group, which includes Y Combinator and others, aiming to fund 1,000 startups a year.

In 2019, Altman resigned to focus on OpenAI. Altman was honored by Forbes in the list of the world’s top 30-year-old investors in 2015. BusinessWeek called him one of the “Best Young Entrepreneurs in Technology”.

ChatGPT’s story

Chat GPT is developed by OpenAI, which is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 with grants from Altman, billionaire Elon Musk, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and other supporters.

The organization is located in San Francisco’s Mission district, with the goal of seeking to form a research counterweight to big tech companies like Alphabet Inc’s Google. Instead of pursuing profit, OpenAI is committed to developing technology for the benefit of humanity.

However, things started to change at OpenAI when Sam Altman became CEO, he decided to move the OpenAI research lab to a new strategy.

Open AI changes direction, focusing on building software that is intelligent enough to reflect human intelligence and capabilities. Altman believes that OpenAI needs to actively raise capital to meet this mission. He even participated in overseeing the creation of a new profitable segment of Open AI.

Since then, OpenAI has approached major partners like Microsoft to find ways to raise more money. Altman says the company’s tools could transform technology similar to the invention of the smartphone and solve broader scientific challenges.

Shortly after becoming AI CEO, Altman raised a $1 billion grant after flying to Seattle to demonstrate an artificial intelligence model to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

The deal with Microsoft gave OpenAI the computing resources it needed to train and improve artificial intelligence algorithms, leading to a series of breakthroughs.

Soon after, Open AI launched Dall-E 2, a project announced in September that allows users to create realistic artwork from text strings. Not long after, the ChatGPT project, a smart answering chatbot, was also launched.

ChatGPT exhibits outstanding features when it can automatically write movie scripts, combine actors from many different series, and write basic academic dissertations for students. Many people call this super AI application, which can answer everything like a real person.

In October, Microsoft said it would integrate OpenAI’s models into its Bing search app and a new design program called Microsoft Design.

According to the WSJ, OpenAI is currently in advanced negotiations on the sale of employee-owned stock. In an earlier bid, OpenAI was valued at around $14 billion.

Altman’s new approach helps the initial investors in OpenAI receive a return of 100 times more than the original contribution, but causes the principle of non-profit to be broken. This CEO is facing skepticism when it is said that it is against the purpose of doing research, enriching shareholders.
