Overcoming the overheating problem, Apple is about to revive AirPower charging dock?

Tram Ho

A recent leak confirms that the Apple AirPower project “C68” has overcome the problem that caused the wireless charging dock of these 3 devices to be canceled for a long time: the Apple Watch caused overheating when being Place on the charging cradle.

Specifically, famous leaker Jon Prosser posted a tweet showing an Apple Watch being charged on “C68,” the codename of the AirPower wireless charging dock. This image is very noticeable, because it shows that Apple has solved the above overheating problem.

Previously, Apple always refused to explain why it canceled the AirPower product after a long delay. Instead, senior vice president Dan Riccio made a brief announcement to several news sites in March 2019.

After much effort, we realized that AirPower would not meet our high standards and canceled the project, ” he said. ” We apologize to customers who are expecting product launches. We still believe the future is wireless and are committed to driving the wireless experience forward .”

After that announcement, it was Prosser who revealed that the reason AirPower was canceled was due to an overheating error – to the point of being able to catch fire. The exclusive Apple Watch wireless charging system requires more power than other devices.

AirPower is a product that allows you to place multiple devices – such as Apple Watch, iPhone and AirPods – anywhere on its surface for charging. However, according to Prosser, ” if you put an Apple Watch on a charging dock along with other devices, the whole base will overheat .”

Prosser also reported that the sample devices codenamed “C68” tested earlier this year were integrated with an A11 microprocessor to manage the amount of heat generated. He said those models didn’t support Apple Watch before, but the latest version did quite well.
