OPPO also has ambitions to develop a folding screen smartphone. In November, OPPO registered not one but several patents related to folding screen smartphones. Today, OPPO partnered with Japanese design studio Nendo to unveil a foldable smartphone concept, an extremely unique design.
OPPO’s smartphone concept is unlike any other foldable smartphone on the market today. It’s a smartphone the size of a visa card, but expandable to a 7-inch screen.
The special design of this smartphone has 3 folding hinges, so that users can slide through the folds with one finger to be able to display different screen parts. The mechanism of this smartphone can be clearly seen in the video below.
Concept Slide Phone of OPPO.
When you slide the screen for the first time, you’ll see about 40mm of the display, enough to see the date and time, notifications, incoming calls, or music player.
Slide one more time, you will see about 80mm of screen. Combined with the camera, you can take a selfie or video call.
The last slide opens completely the smartphone, giving you a 7-inch screen, for watching movies, browsing the web, playing games and all sorts of other tasks.
However, the design of this particular smartphone makes its 7-inch screen stretch instead of expanding horizontally. Therefore, the user experience will also be very different from Samsung’s Galaxy Fold.
OPPO said users can multitask on the extended screen of this smartphone, as well as be able to play games with two separate control clusters on the two ends of the smartphone.
In addition, the smartphone also comes with a stylus built into the body. What do you think about OPPO’s Slide Phone concept, can it become a reality?
