Some previous Pixel phone owners are having serious problems with their cameras. Android Police has seen a recent increase in Play Store 1-star reviews for the camera app used by Pixel phones.
Many disappointed owners report that cameras often hang when opened or are no longer working. A thread in Google’s Pixel support forum also has members making similar complaints. The Pixel 2 XL seems to be cited as having the most frequent issues, but several other users reported having issues with recently released devices like the Pixel 3 or 4A.
This is not an entirely new issue. Previous reports indicated that camera problems mainly affected the Pixel 2 phones last year, and that more and more of these smartphones are affected today. The owner said that the fixes suggested by Google did not fix the issue, and they also encountered the same issue when using third-party camera apps. The Pixel 2 series recently got a security update, but this doesn’t seem to be a good reason for the camera system to stop working.
This is clearly an unfortunate and serious error, especially when many people choose to buy a Pixel phone because of its high-quality camera system. While the image quality of Pixel phones has lately lagged behind rival flagships, low-cost devices like the 4A and 4A 5G offer a choice of smartphones with the best cameras in their segment.
But a good camera is when it can continue to function when you need it, so we hope Google will address these concerns soon.
