New AI technology helps parents distinguish between babies crying due to hunger, sickness or not changing diapers.

Hungry? Tired? Pain? Sleepy? Sad to go to the toilet? Those are just a few things that a child wants to convey through crying. Instead of words, cries are things that reflect what an infant wants.

But because cries can mean so much, not everyone knows what their children need. That is why many parents are helpless because they cannot coax them to stop. Even if it is not possible to solve the problem that the child is having, it will cry even louder and cause no small problems.

Of course there are many people who are quite proficient with the "catch disease" of children through gesture and crying way of the baby. Based on this, a team of researchers in the United States has tried to develop a special method of AI that identifies and distinguishes the different types of crying babies.

The new AI algorithm is a great lifeline for parents who are raising small children

Knowing what babies cry for will certainly help parents a lot in nurturing and caring for children. Previously, many parents often rely on their experiences and senses to identify their condition. But sometimes there are certain errors. So if you can know what the baby is doing, it will make it easier for them to handle the problem.

Also, in the future, this AI can be completely used to distinguish cries in infected children.

AI algorithms use speech recognition to distinguish unusual traits in a child's cry. To detect the difference, the team used sensors to recreate the audio data recorded in a noisy environment due to children's cries.

Lichuan Liu, associate professor and research author also said:

Hopefully in the future, new AI can be used in many health activities, protect children's health and reduce the burden on parents.

The study was published in IEEE / CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica (JAS), a collaborative publication between IEEE and the Chinese Automation Association.
