Mobile game Contra will launch this July on iOS and Android smartphones

Contra, a classic scrolling shooter, is coming to smartphones. Konami recently announced that they will be launching the game on iOS and Android in July 2021, even sharing a short trailer of the game on YouTube.

Notably, Konami has partnered with Chinese game company Tencent to bring the game to the mobile platform. While versions of the game have appeared on Android before, this is the first official release of one of the most iconic video games from Konami. For those who don’t know, Contra is a scrolling game designed around arcades to provide a run-and-gun gameplay. Some versions of the game are even available on PC, PlayStations, and Xbox.

The new game has been dubbed “Contra Returns”, and producer Konami has promised to deliver a “true new take” to the series, along with “new graphics, gameplay upgrades and more”.

From what is known so far, the game will feature customizable weapons and will even feature new characters and related storylines. Players will have to unlock new skills through the game to be able to overcome the different levels.

In other words, Konami is bringing a modern twist to the game while promising it will contain the same thrills as the original arcade versions. The game will have more than 200 levels, new game modes, including 1v1 and even 3v3 modes. Currently, the game is available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store .
