The Vietnamese version of Microsoft’s popular MSN web portal officially went online on Wednesday, promising to bring local users a better experience in reading news in their mother language.

The MSN Vietnam news portal is competitive with similar platforms thanks to the integration of Microsoft’s flagship products and services including Bing, Outlook, Online Office and Skype, Keith Lin, editor-in-chief, MSN web and mobile apps, Southeast Asia at Microsoft, said at the launch ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City the same day.

Users in Vietnam will be redirected to MSN Vietnam, at msn.com/vi-vn, when they visit the global site, msn.com.

The Vietnamese MSN mobile apps for Windows Phone, Android and iOS will be released soon, according to Microsoft.

MSN Vietnam and Microsoft do create content themselves and at the same time provide a tech platform that publishes news from selected sources, according to the U.S. software titan.

The news portal also has an editorial team from newswire VietnamPlus, under the Vietnam News Agency, in accordance with a bilateral cooperation agreement.

MSN Vietnam has initially partnered with VietnamPlus, newswire VTC, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, and Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper as its news suppliers.

The editorial team can also select news from global partners of MSN, such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Bloomberg, AFP, Reuters and BBC, to translate into Vietnamese.

MSN Vietnam’s strategy is to focus on entertainment, sports, and financial news.

MSN, originally known as The Microsoft Network, is a collection of Internet websites and services provided by Microsoft. The Microsoft Network debuted as an online service and Internet service provider on August 24, 1995, to coincide with the release of the Windows 95 operating system.

A new site, making use of Microsoft’s modern design language, was launched on September 30, 2014.
