Microsoft devised a way to help the Edge browser reach more than 1 billion users in a flash

Tram Ho

In January, Microsoft launched a new Edge browser based on Chromium, with drastic changes and gradually becoming more like a Chrome rival. However, users must download the Edge Chromium browser and install it manually.

Now, an article on Microsoft’s support site reveals that Edge Chromium will be updated via Windows Update. It also means that the software giant’s new browser will soon have access to more than 1 billion Windows 10 users today.

The new Edge browser will be installed automatically through updates of Windows 10 version 1803 and higher. However, the update will not be done simultaneously, so you may not see the Edge browser installed automatically on your computer.

But do not be surprised if a beautiful morning, Edge browser suddenly appears on your desktop, even if you have not installed it before.

Microsoft has greatly improved its Edge browser. A commendable point is that the Edge Chromium browser has supported many extensions, can use the same Chrome extension and already has the feature to sync extensions with accounts. However, the history and account synchronization feature has not yet been integrated into Microsoft Edge.

Although it has changed to resemble Chrome, Microsoft’s new Edge browser still lacks one of the most important features. That is the Google search engine, something that is very familiar to many users, especially Vietnamese users. Meanwhile, you will have to use the Bing search engine on Edge.

Besides, it is not clear what will happen if users remove Edge browser. Will this browser automatically install in the next Windows Update? If so, then this was indeed a great annoyance.
