Master plan for IT parks gets approval

Ngoc Huynh

The Prime Minister has approved an overall plan for development of concentrated information technology (IT) parks by 2020 with a vision to 2030.

The plan aims to build a number of concentrated IT parks in some provinces and cities with conditions suitable for the purpose.

Such conditions include having sufficient financial resources, both from local budget and enterprises, to build infrastructure for the parks and already having important IT projects, or IT products.

In addition, two to three IT parks will be built in Hanoi, Da Nang and HCM City each.

In order to realise those targets, the PM urged the relevant agencies to continue perfecting regulations, mechanisms and policies, especially incentive policies, concerning concentrated IT parks.

The Government head underlined that all economic sectors and foreign investors should be encouraged to participate in developing the parks, especially technical infrastructure inside the parks.

The master plan also calls for more investments in research and development in the IT parks as well as promoting exchanges and linkages between the parks and research and training establishments as well as IT businesses.

Besides those measures, the PM suggested creating mechanisms to allow the establishment of venture capital funds to foster start-ups in IT parks.
