According to Newatlas , Ford is working on how to make anti-theft wheel nuts when each screw is 3D printed for each wheel.
Although there are many ways to prevent nut removal and car wheel theft, such as Torx nuts. However, when this type of nut became popular, there were many tools to remove it.
That’s why Ford is trying to solve the problem by using the wheel lock nut for each car. Just one nut on each wheel is enough to avoid theft. This special nut is made from 3D printing technology so the manufacturer can customize according to the wheel size. Besides, 3D printed nuts are as good as stainless steel.
Owners of cars can use logos from the manufacturer or choose the models they like. Users can describe the logo they want and Ford will help you specify that accurately.
Thanks to the clever design, the nut’s exterior is different from most common nuts. And surely only the owner of the car will know how to remove the nut.
On the nuts are also small grooves spaced evenly, which makes connecting with the wheels deeper and more secure. This will certainly cause a lot of difficulty for thieves who want to remove these nuts from the wheel.
Of course the shape of the nut can make the wheel look odd. But it’s clear that it is worth the risk of losing your wheel theft for a safer ride.
However, there is a concern that if you accidentally lose the nut opener, you will find it difficult to find a replacement. Ford hasn’t mentioned when and where to sell replacement products.
