LG Display’s 360-degree foldable smartphone idea attracts great attention at CES 2023

LG Display is looking to push past the limits of what OLED screens can do.
One of the most interesting ideas at the Consumer Electronics Show CES 2023 taking place in Las Vegas (USA) is an 8-inch OLED panel with 360-degree folding, which can be used for future smartphone models. Besides, the idea of a 17-inch laptop with a folding screen does not leave visible wrinkles when the full screen is opened.

The demo at CES 2023 shows the 8-inch OLED screen that can be folded in two ways, giving users more flexibility in how to use mobile devices. The display module structure is durable enough to withstand more than 200,000 folds. LG Display further claims that the new screen folding mechanism helps to minimize wrinkles along the folded areas.
The interface of the 360-degree folding screen phone will include the calendar and widgets on the left, the Spotify music player on the right. The middle part of the screen has a quick launch bar for the user’s favorite apps.

“Wrinkle-free” – That’s the main highlight of LG Display’s 17-inch foldable OLED display. The included control panel allows adjusting the screen brightness to 400 nits and a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels.
Even if you look closely, it is difficult to notice the connection when performing the full-screen operation. Technology experts consider this to be an impressive breakthrough of LG Display.
When folded in half, this laptop will provide users with a 12.5-inch screen, large enough to use and perform operations comfortably.

OLED Glow is the idea of a 27-inch OLED display that can adjust both height and angle, and has touch technology. In the demo at CES 2023 (see photo above), the OLED Glow is showing a live view, then the screen is raised and flipped to the right, forming a shape almost like a flag. The screen now shows a collection of e-books that you can use finger gestures to browse.
3rd generation OLED TV with Meta . technology

LG announced its 3rd generation OLED TV concept at CES 2023, promising up to 60% brighter brightness than previous EX displays, and 30% wider viewing angles.
LG Display’s new Meta technology utilizes a series of micro-lens that maximize light emission from the OLED panel and the Meta Booster brightness enhancement algorithm. The result is up to 2,100 nits of brightness.
Meta technology is also about to be applied by LG to 55, 65, and 77-inch 4K OLED screens, as well as 77 and 88-inch 8K OLED TV models.
0.42 inch ultra-small OLED screen

LG Display brought to CES 2023 a 45-inch OLED gaming monitor with an 800R curve. This technology has been incorporated into products from LG Electronics, Asus and Corsair.
Besides, equally notable is the 0.42-inch ultra-small OLED screen for virtual reality (VR) technology.
In general, experts assess that, during this year’s CES exhibition, LG Display has brought interesting ideas about the future of OLED screens.
Let’s wait and see if smartphone manufacturers will adopt 360-degree folding OLED screens into their upcoming products. If this turns out to be true, this is a very unique smartphone.
