LG Display temporarily closed a phone screen factory due to corona virus concerns

Samsung is not the only Korean giant affected by the corona virus storm that is sweeping the world. LG Display said it had temporarily shut down a smartphone screen factory in Gumi province, South Korea after a bank employee near the factory tested positive for Covid-19 virus.

A week earlier, Samsung also temporarily closed its factory in Gumi when a worker there tested positive for Covid-19. However, only two days later, Samsung’s factory returned to operation. As for LG, the company is expected to return to production on March 3, but did not say if this would affect their phone production or not.

While this certainly raises concerns about LG’s ability to make phones, it could also impact other companies. LG Display currently produces displays for a range of companies, including some of Apple’s iPhones. Even a few days of closure will lead to a shortage of supply, which was not enough before.

The corona virus outbreak is hurting a number of technology companies across the globe. Apple has warned of a shortage of iPhones, while Microsoft said its revenue expectations may not be met due to Covid-19’s impact on the world PC market.

Not to mention the series of technology exhibitions that have been canceled globally since the beginning of the year. So far most of the tech giants are reeling from the epidemic and have yet to know when it will end with the increasingly complex current situation.
