LG canceled its event at MWC 2020, out of fear of the corona virus

LG Electronics has said it will withdraw from the Mobile World Congress MWC 2020, which is about to take place in Barcelona. The reported cause is fear of an outbreak of corona virus disease. LG is the second largest company to cancel the event at MWC this year, before it was China’s ZTE.

An LG spokesman said the decision was intended to prevent the exposure of hundreds of LG employees to international tourists, something most health experts recommend avoiding at the moment.

Instead of participating in MWC 2020, LG will hold a separate event in the near future, to announce its 2020 mobile devices. The most expected is the LG G9 and LG V60 duo.

Mobile World Congress is the largest annual global mobile device exhibition, where smartphone vendors launch their new devices and showcase the latest mobile technologies.

The organizer of the annual MWC event is the GSMA trading group. This year, GSMA said that the MWC event will still be held as planned, despite concerns about the disease caused by the corona virus. However, GSMA also confirmed that necessary preventive measures have been prepared.
