Lenovo recalls laptop batteries

Ngoc Huynh

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Lenovo (Singapore) Pte Ltd has recalled nearly 200,000 lithium-ion laptop batteries from across the world, which were sold between February 2010 and June 2012.

The batteries reportedly may overheat, posing a fire risk.

The company sent a document to the Vietnam Competition Authority, under the Industry and Trade Ministry, to report its recall of the batteries, installed in laptops or sold separately.

Lenovo said customers should shut down their systems, detach batteries from the laptops, and only use cable power cords and AC laptop chargers.

The company will replace these batteries for free.
