Leaving OnePlus, former founder to open a new company called “Nothing”

As announced earlier, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei officially quit his job at OnePlus to form his own company. Recently, information about Carl Pei’s plan was also revealed. Specifically, Carl Pei’s new company, called “Nothing”, focuses mainly on consumer technology with smart devices in the same ecosystem.

Nothing is headquartered in London, UK and currently has Tony Fadell – inventor of the iPod, Kevin Lin – founder of Twitch, Steve Huffman – CEO of Reddit and YouTuber Casey Neistat as major investors for Carl Pei. According to the description, Nothing will launch its first smart device in the first half of this year.

Currently, as Pei revealed, Nothing focuses on smart devices, but it is not clear what product lines. In an interview with news site The Verge yesterday, Pei refused to provide information about “smart devices” that Nothing will distribute to the market in the near future. On the Nothing side, the company will differentiate its products from the very beginning by using “custom” components. This will make Nothing’s products look different from their competitors in the market, Pei said. “There is a reason many products on the market look quite similar, that is because they use many components and components together.” OnePlus is an example when its products are almost all influenced by OPPO and many other Chinese smartphones.
