As announced earlier, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei officially quit his job at OnePlus to form his own company. Recently, information about Carl Pei’s plan was also revealed. Specifically, Carl Pei’s new company, called “Nothing”, focuses mainly on consumer technology with smart devices in the same ecosystem.

Nothing is headquartered in London, UK and currently has Tony Fadell – inventor of the iPod, Kevin Lin – founder of Twitch, Steve Huffman – CEO of Reddit and YouTuber Casey Neistat as major investors for Carl Pei. According to the description, Nothing will launch its first smart device in the first half of this year.

“Nothing’s goal is to break down barriers between people and technology to create a more seamless digital future. We believe that technology is the best, most natural platform to use directly. Once fully developed, technology will enter our lives and will be a matter of course, “ Nothing’s CEO, Mr. Carl Pei said.

Currently, as Pei revealed, Nothing focuses on smart devices, but it is not clear what product lines. In an interview with news site The Verge yesterday, Pei refused to provide information about “smart devices” that Nothing will distribute to the market in the near future. He also did not specify that Nothing will have to compete with any competitors in the market.

However, according to The Verge, Mr. Pei has confirmed his plan to launch cross-platform products, with the ultimate goal of building a homogeneous ecosystem among electronic devices.

“Right now, the company is in development and we want to focus on the simplest. The company’s vision will ultimately be an ecosystem where devices can be interconnected. is seamless, and that only happens when we have a wide variety of products, “ said Mr. Pei.

While working at OnePlus, Carl Pei focused on product development with a variety of devices, from phones, headphones to smart TVs. Last year, Britain’s Wired page said Pei’s new company would focus on music and earphone equipment. When asked about the matter, he declined to confirm whether the headphones were part of the company’s plans. He also asserted that Nothing had a further orientation.

Nothing focuses on smart products with the ultimate goal of building a seamless ecosystem

In reply to The Verge, Carl Pei stated his views on Nothing. Initially, the company will aim to make profits by focusing on hardware instead of software and services. However, in the long run, the company will develop both the hardware and services segments equally. “We have not discussed much about software service development, but clearly a good user experience is a condition for making profits from the software segment.”

On the Nothing side, the company will differentiate its products from the very beginning by using “custom” components. This will make Nothing’s products look different from their competitors in the market, Pei said. “There is a reason many products on the market look quite similar, that is because they use many components and components together.” OnePlus is an example when its products are almost all influenced by OPPO and many other Chinese smartphones.

Nothing will be an independent company that owns its own R&D (research and development) segment. Mr. Pei pledged that Nothing’s products will all be self-research and will not “be labeled by other companies.”
