Jony Ive revealed the secret that Apple’s $ 5 billion headquarters is actually a spaceship

Tram Ho

Ever since revealing the design, the new Apple Park headquarters of “Apples of Apples” has overwhelmed many people by its design and scale. Looking at the circular design covered by its glass, many people associate with spacecraft. A new secret revealed that the building with a construction cost of up to US $ 5 billion is actually a spaceship.

According to former Design Director Jony Ive, who has just announced a break from Apple, Apple Park isn’t actually built on the surface of the earth. Instead, it sits on nearly 700 giant stainless steel discs. This structure helps protect the building’s foundation from natural disasters such as earthquakes. In the event of an earthquake, the entire Apple Park campus can move up to 1.2 meters in any direction on the above disks.

In an interview with The New York Times, Jony Ive said earthquake resistance is an essential part of Apple Park’s design. Ive shared the founding founder and late CEO Steve Jobs together with him to study anti-earthquake solutions for Apple Park. According to Ive, Jobs was inspired by a Japanese solution to isolate the foundation against earthquakes.

Currently, about 9,000 buildings in Japan use foundation isolation solutions. Meanwhile, there are only 175 buildings in the United States, including Apple Park.

Apple Park was completed in early 2018, but some Apple employees began moving here to work since late 2017. With the design covered with large glass panels with a theater that accommodates 1,000 people, construction costs Apple Park is quite expensive. It can even produce electricity by itself with solar panels covering the roof.

With a construction cost of $ 5 billion and more than 12,000 employees working here, including CEO Tim Cook, it is no surprise that Apple wants to do everything to ensure safety for its new headquarters.
