According to CNN, this world’s richest billionaire has just successfully made a flight to the edge of space that lasted about 11 minutes, before landing safely back on Earth.

In addition to the boss of Amazon, a number of other people were also on board the New Shepard. It was Mark Bezos, Bezos’ brother; Wally Funk, one of the first American women to receive space training under the US Mercury 13 program, but never flew; Finally, Oliver Daemen, an 18-year-old man whose father is a director of an investment management company in the Netherlands, was the first passenger to pay for a ticket to fly into space.

4 passengers were on board the New Shepard

According to CNN, all four of these passengers were seated inside the cabin of the New Shepard, before the booster started the engine at 8:12 pm on July 20 (Vietnam time). With a speed of 3,540 km / h, the train takes about 2 and a half minutes to reach an altitude of 76 km. At this height, the passenger compartment of the ship was separated, while the booster rocket returned to the ground to be reused for the next launch.

When the passenger compartment reached an altitude of 106km, the crew experienced zero gravity for 4 minutes. During this time, all 4 passengers are allowed to unbuckle their seats to fly around and soak up the panoramic views of the Earth and the universe.

The cabin then returned to Earth by parachute, before using a last-minute jet propulsion system for a smooth landing in the Texas desert. The whole procedure took less than 11 minutes. As soon as he got out of the passenger compartment, billionaire Jeff Bezos immediately exclaimed “this is the best day of my life “.

I’ve accomplished my great mission in life – to not hit anyone with my foot ,” joked Jeff Bezos after landing. “ I was really surprised at how easy it was [to manage in] zero gravity … it was like swimming .”

Jeff Bezos’ trip also marks an important test for the New Shepard spacecraft – a fully automated spacecraft and rocket complex of Blue Origin company, which is owned by the former CEO of Amazon. This complex is considered a trump card in the plans to exploit the potential space tourism market of billionaire Jeff Bezos. This mission was also the world’s first unmanned flight, when the passengers involved were completely untrained.

The mission also set two more records: the oldest person to ever go to space (Mrs. Funk, 82 years old) and the youngest person to ever reach the edge of space (Daemen, 18 years old). Jeff Bezos becomes the second billionaire ever to fly on a rocket of his own company, following Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Galactic, who entered space on his SpaceShipTwo rocket on July 11th.
