Iron love between Samsung and Microsoft was born from the hostility to Apple’s iMessage

Tram Ho

The partnership between Samsung and Microsoft is stronger than ever as they build an ecosystem that can rival Apple.

In fact, this relationship is so close that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella suddenly appeared in Samsung’s Unpacked 2019 event, where the Korean company introduced the Galaxy Note 10 smartphone last Wednesday.

The first step of this partnership is to bring some features of Samsung smartphones that are seamlessly compatible with Windows computers.

The first big feature is text messaging. The ability to be able to send text messages from a computer is considered one of the most attractive points in Apple’s iMessage application. This is also one of the most important reasons why many iPhone users cannot switch to Android.

Microsoft already has an application called “Your Phone”, designed to allow you to send and receive text messages from your Android phone via a Windows computer. But the process of connecting Android phones to Windows computers is still very cumbersome and the feature of this application is still not so great when it was just released. Although effective, it has many limitations, especially when compared to the experience of the iMessage application on iPhone and Mac computers.

With the Galaxy Note 10, Samsung is building up the ability to connect to Microsoft’s Phone to help this device connect more easily with Windows computers. In Samsung’s Unpacked event, Microsoft showed how Your Phone application will allow you to make calls from future Windows computers.

You can also mirror the Galaxy Note 10 screen on your computer with just one USB cable, whether it’s a new USB-C cable or a regular USB-A cable.

Basically, this feature is similar to Samsung’s current DeX feature, which allows plugging Samsung phones into the screen and using the phone as an ultraportable computer. But instead of connecting the phone to the screen, the new DeX feature allows the phone to directly connect the computer. Through this connection, you can view the phone screen, send messages and make calls. You can even transfer files between devices with just a few mouse clicks or drag and drop.

Not only Samsung and Microsoft are interested in this feature, Google itself also has a solution to allow sending messages from Chrome browser on any computer. Google’s solution is becoming more comprehensive, as it works on any computer running Chrome browser, as well as Android devices.

The battle to free iPhone users from Apple’s ecosystem is taking place more and more fierce and this time Samsung and Microsoft are deciding to make their own ecosystem. Even so, with the high-end of the Galaxy Note 10, despite being seamlessly compatible with Windows computers, it’s hard to expect it to be popular enough to confront Apple’s iMessage.
