The latest report today says that iPhone production continues to face many difficulties, due to the impact of a shortage of screen control chips. This problem is expected to affect millions of iPhone screen panels, reducing iPhone production in the near future.

The global chip shortage has hit many industries worldwide. The reason is due to the Covid-19 pandemic disrupting production, and the demand for semiconductor chips from automakers is increasing.

The biggest problem isn’t just a shortage of CPUs or GPUs, but much smaller chips like display control chips or power management chips. These simple chips are used in almost all devices, including Apple’s iPhones.

CEO Tim Cook has to admit that the shortage of components has caused Apple to lose $ 6 billion in revenue in each of the past quarters.

Elec reports that at least one of the manufacturers of OLED displays for Apple’s iPhones has been severely affected, due to a shortage of display driver chips.

“Chinese display giant BOE is facing an issue with the OLED panels it supplies to iPhones. BOE has set a target to ship more than 40 million units of OLED panels for iPhone this year. But given the current situation, this number could only reach 30 million units by year-end,” the Elec report said.

Currently, Samsung is still the largest supplier of OLED panels to Apple, LG Display holds the second place and BOE in third place.
