Counterpoint Research forecasts that the launch of iPhone 13 and the popularity of iPhone 12 will help the number of 5G smartphones sold globally in the fourth quarter of 2021 to nearly 200 million units, so the total number of smartphones 5G in 2021 will reach about 605 million.

Last year, despite its late October launch, Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup accounted for 24% of all 5G smartphones globally. This year, with the usual launch, iPhone 13 will help Apple account for 33% of all 5G smartphones sold globally.

Jeff Fieldhack, Research Director for North America, believes that “Even without much change in any specifications, many Americans are eager to upgrade to a new iPhone because the iOS platform is old in the US. iOS loyalists are ready for new devices.”

Jeff Fieldhack added: “Apple’s share in the 5G smartphone market is forecast to increase strongly thanks to the time of the new iPhone launch during the holiday season, the economic recovery due to the COVID-19 epidemic situation. In addition, developments related to Apple’s services and privacy will be an important factor to attract users to choose the new iPhone.”

On September 14, Apple launched the iPhone 13 generation with 4 versions: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Although the design has not changed much compared to the previous product line, the iPhone 13 versions are confirmed by Apple to bring a more novel experience with internal hardware upgrades.
